Do You Have Age or Sun Spots That You Wish Could Disappear?
Age spots are also known as sun spots, lentigos, and lentigines. Age spots are flat, tan-brown in appearance, and can vary in size. They are usually slightly round in shape and have irregular borders. They are frequently found on sun-exposed areas of the skin including the shoulders, upper back, face, forearms, and the back of the hands. The pigment-producing cells in the skin (known as melanocytes) are stimulated by ultraviolet rays from the sun or tanning beds to produce more pigment (melanin). When excessive amounts of melanin are produced and accumulate, age/sun spots form. Prevention is the best treatment for these spots by avoiding UV exposure from the sun or tanning beds and using sunscreen daily to protect the skin. However, laser treatments are a highly effective means of removing age/sun spots once they form.
Revitalize SkinMD usesstate-of-the-art, laser technology to safely and effectively eliminate age/sun spots. The treatments are performed by a trained and certified laser specialist. During the treatment, a controlled amount of therapeutic heat is delivered from the laser to the designated area of the skin. The laser energy is absorbed by the melanin-rich age/sun spots and breaks apart the cells (melanocytes) that contain the pigment (melanin), which is released and causes transient darkening of the spot. The darkened pigment will then typically flake off like dry skin within 7-10 days. Although the laser treatment itself is short and can last from a few minutes to an hour depending on the number of spots and condition of the skin, the process of breaking up the cells and fading of the pigment continues for several weeks after the treatment is completed.
Some patients feel a slight discomfort or sting with each laser pulse. The sensation is akin to the brief snapping of a small rubber band against the skin as described by some. This discomfort resolves quickly and is significantly reduced by the concomitant delivery of cold pulses of air to the skin with each trigger of the laser using a patented cooling system within the GentleMax Pro® laser device.
The number of sessions depends on how many spots are present and the condition of your particular skin. Each patient’s skin is unique. Some individuals may require multiple treatments although many spots can be removed in as little as 1 to 3 treatment sessions. Fortunately, treated age/sun spots are permanently removed and do not return unless additional sun damage occurs.
The cost of the treatment will depend on the extent of the area and condition of the skin being treated. For an isolated area, it can cost as little as $25. Revitalize SkinMD provides free consultations to evaluate and develop a customized treatment plan specifically tailored to the skin and cosmetic needs of individual clients and the cost of treatment is provided prior to initiating therapy.
